The gap

Scanning gates see the vehicle. They don't know which vehicle it is.

Automated gates produce high-quality multi-angle images, but the images carry no identity. The OEM's AI pipeline needs every image set bound to a VIN. Manual entry is slow and error-prone, and scanner manufacturers don't provide identification. That integration gap is what RhinoTrace fills.

From unloading to parking, scanning, staging and release there is no per-vehicle trail. A single lost or disputed export vehicle, worth US$80,000–120,000, costs more than a year of the system.

Vehicles move between intake, wash, workshop, test drive, lot and delivery. Without identity on the scan, scan data never reaches the repair order.

Mis-attributed images corrupt the manufacturer's damage-detection data. RhinoTrace's design rule: an image whose match is not confirmed is never sent.

How it works

Three zones. No change to the scanner. No change to the lane.

RhinoTrace reads the scanner's image output directory or endpoint. The scanning equipment itself is untouched and the OEM's existing damage-assessment flow is unaffected.

Zone 1 · Binding station

Give every vehicle an electronic ID

Handheld scan of the vehicle's VIN barcode → VIN written to a UHF RFID tag → read-back verification → tag applied to an uncoated window area.

About 30–45 seconds per vehicle. VIN check-digit validation and model decoding provide double protection against tagging the wrong vehicle.

Zone 2 · Gate & lane identification

Automatic roll-call as the vehicle passes

Vehicle drives through at normal speed (~5 mph). Fixed readers and directional antennas read the tag in sync with the image capture.

No stop, no operator, no modification to the existing scanning equipment.

Zone 3 · RhinoTrace engine

Match, stamp, forward, monitor

RhinoCap-owned IP on AWS (U.S. regions). Matching engine pairs the VIN read event with the image session by time window → stamping module writes the VIN into each image's EXIF/XMP and file name → delivery module forwards to the OEM endpoint to spec, with automatic retry.

The operations console shows each passing vehicle's VIN, image thumbnails and match / stamp / delivery status in real time.

Design rule. Unconfirmed matches are never forwarded. Missed or cross-read vehicles enter a manual exception queue; if untouched for 10 minutes a supervisor is alerted automatically. One extra human check beats one wrong VIN in the OEM's AI data.

RhinoTrace records every change of state as an event. Events are append-only and never overwritten, so the log itself is chain-of-custody evidence.

Back office: event timeline, on-site inventory, dwell-time and anomaly alerts, exportable chain-of-custody reports, two-way sync with OEM or port systems. Tags are recovered and rewritten at exit, so no vehicle leaves with project equipment on board.

Where every vehicle is, right now

Tag at intake, then read points at the service-entry gate, workshop, wash bay, test-drive exit, lot and delivery area record every move automatically.

  • Live location. The advisor opens the console and sees which zone the car is in, how long it has been there and who handled it last.
  • Images attributed. Intake scan images are stamped with the VIN and linked to the vehicle's service record, so before/after condition is on file.
  • Process transparency. Dwell time in awaiting-repair, awaiting-parts, awaiting-wash and awaiting-delivery shows where the bottleneck is.
  • Loss prevention & inventory. Unreleased vehicles leaving the site trigger an alert. New, used and demo inventory counts become a system roll-call, not a walk.

The dealership edition needs no port-area civil works, deploys faster and costs less. Multi-brand groups run every brand on one platform.

Radio compliance

All wireless equipment runs in its certified configuration. The software exposes no power or frequency adjustment.

Data protection

VINs are treated as quasi-personal data: stored in the U.S., encrypted in transit, access fully auditable.

Port security

Deployment and maintenance staff hold TWIC credentials and port safety training. Installations are approved by the Facility Security Officer.
